Mono Lake. This is a salt water lake, sister to the Great Salt Lake in Utah, whose water was depleted about 40 years ago when the Los Angeles Water District diverted some of its feeder rivers. This severly depleted the water level of the lake, to the detriment of the local ecosystem. the courts ruled several years ago in favor of the lake, and now the water level is being replenished. My facts are a little fuzzy and it's too late at night for me to do research. At any rate it was a high point of our travels..
